Frequently Asked Questions
Can you help me?
-
The short answer: Yes!
The long answer: We rarely meet someone who does not benefit from pelvic health physical therapy and our whole-person approach to care. If you are not sure if we can help, please call us at (314) 940-1334 or fill out our contact form and we will happily provide a phone consultation to discuss whether or not you may benefit from working with us.

Dr. Savannah is not trained in adult male pelvic health and is only qualified to see male children. Please contact us if you are having trouble finding a men’s pelvic health provider; we believe you deserve care, too, and we will help you find it!

What to Expect
-
Your first visit will start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms and your history. Next we will do an exam to start determining the root cause of your symptoms. This exam can be internal, external, or movement-based. Finally, we will learn what you can start doing now to address what we found and make your personal action plan.
-
Yes! Our office is intentionally set up to make you feel comfortable and confident bringing your baby or older children. We have toys, safe play spaces, and books for them to look at. We have a variety of ways to keep your baby happy during your appointment, including a playmat, swing, and feeding pillows.
-
In an internal pelvic floor exam, Dr. Savannah use her index finger (not a cold, clammy speculum!) to assess your pelvic floor either vaginally or rectally. The exam includes performing muscle contractions and relaxations, as well as assessing muscle tension or trigger points. We use lubrication to reduce friction, and clean, gloved hands to prevent infection. Dr. Savannah will explain the entire exam in detail beforehand, and give you the opportunity to ask questions. You can stop the exam at any time.
-
No. All portions of your exam and care are performed only with your explicit verbal and written consent. We make a point of getting consent for all touch, exams, and treatments during every appointment, and often multiple times in one appointment. If you do not want an internal exam, we can assess your pelvic health in many other ways.
-
Everyone has a unique treatment plan. At the end of your evaluation, we will make an action plan that includes a recommended number of visits for starting your healing journey. We partner with you to ensure that your frequency (how often you come) of visits aligns with your physical needs, schedule, and financial capacity.
-
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy focuses on education, good pelvic health habits, and exercises that support your child’s pelvic health. Exercise is provided in the form of playful games to keep the children engaged, and education is done through pictures, books, models, and videos when needed. There is never an internal exam for children.
-
Yes! You are welcome to bring anyone you trust to your appointment either as a support person or a chaperone for additional safety. If you would like a chaperone during your visits, but do not have someone you’d like to bring, we are happy to provide a chaperone for you.
-
Yes! Being on your period is not a a barrier to pelvic PT. We can still do internal work if that is your preference, and we can also do any number of external treatments.

We strive to ensure that you can get the care you need as soon as possible. While some appointment slots tend to fill quickly, such as late afternoons and Saturdays, we are usually able to offer you an appointment within the same week.

No. Missouri allows anyone to start physical therapy without a referral. We obtain a referral from your provider on your behalf so that we can continue care.
-
We are a private-pay, out-of-network provider. You pay us directly, and then you have the option to submit a superbill to your insurance for reimbursement. To learn more about why we choose to be out-of-network, click here.
All of our services are addressed by your out-of-network physical therapy benefits in your insurance policy. We are committed to helping you get reimbursed as much as possible. In addition to providing superbills, we are also happy to provide you with copies of our notes so that you can demonstrate medical necessity.
We are not able to guarantee reimbursement, as this depends on the benefits in your unique policy.
